As God come in the flesh, Jesus isn’t just our Savior and our Lord,
He is also our model.

That might not sound all that earth-shattering to you, but I believe you’ll realize as you read this book that…

Jesus’ role as our model should have just as much impact on our lives as the fact that He is our Lord and Savior.

This is because Jesus, though always God, deliberately chose to limit His divine attributes and power in order not only to show us who God is but also to demonstrate for us what the normal Christian life should look like.

  • Jesus used spiritual disciplines to walk with the Father, and develop and learn as we do: “Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man” (Luke 2:52).

  • Jesus also used spiritual gifts (not His inherent power) to actually carry out His ministry while on earth.

  • And He used the promptings He received from the Father and the Spirit to lead His disciples into moments of revival.

Jesus’ life is the ultimate example of convergence,
and must be our model christian life and ministry.

Why Convergence is Important

For the Church and Ministry

debby-hudson-572591-unsplash.jpg
  1. The use of spiritual gifts, spiritual disciplines, and spiritual experiences are the signs of the living Church

  2. Many of us live out our spiritual lives in settings where these three things aren’t taught or practiced

  3. Churches tend to focus on one of these and exclude or minimize the others

    • One church makes spiritual practices the central point of discipleship

    • Another emphasizes spiritual gifts as the main thing

    • And some churches long for revival

But, Convergence describes believers who are determined to see all three come together.

For a Normal Christian Life

christianlife

When we see Jesus living an authentic life not in his divine attributes and power, and through the lens of Convergence, we can see it is truly possible for us as Christians! When a believer:

  1. Uses their Spiritual Gifts

    • Using our God-given Love, Word, or Power gifts

  2. Exercises Spiritual Disciplines (or practices)

    • Putting ourselves in regular places of guaranteed encounter

  3. Expects Spiritual Experiences (unusual works of the Spirit)

    • Hearing from the Father through the Holy Spirit to prompt us into action

An authentic and exciting Christian Life emerges.

If Jesus provided this model, it should fit every single Christian and local church on the face of the earth, no matter how we might differ in other ways.
